CreateFileMapping mystery solved? (Updated)
This is an intermittent error - sometimes it goes away on the next build. But Oscar Davila appears to have found the cause. After going through all the processes running on his development machine, he identified the ATI Catalyst Control Center (CCC.EXE) as the culprit. After killing that process he was able to compile without difficulty, and Abe Jimenez confirmed.
Abe advises running MSConfig and checking the Startup tab for a program called StartCCC.exe.
Naturally, you make any changes to your computer's configuration at your own risk. Please be careful! You might want to try killing the process from the Task Manager first; if everything still works as expected, then you can try disabling it at startup.
I've never encountered the CreateFileMapping problem (at least not that I can recall) even though I do have Catalyst Control Center on my machine. But my CCC is launched by CLIStart.exe, not by StartCCC.exe, so perhaps it's a version-specific problem.
Update: I mixed up the credits - Abe pointed out MSConfig/StartCCC.
