TOPSPEED AND WISE SOLUTIONS FORM BUSINESS ALLIANCE

Wise For Clarion Improves Ease of Installation

Pompano Beach, Florida, October 23, 1998-TopSpeedÒ Corporation and Wise Solutions, Inc. today joined forces in a strong alliance that includes a reseller agreement between the top-tier software tools firms.

A technology innovator in the application development tools sector, TopSpeed develops and markets Clarion software, the breakthrough solution for rapid development and deployment of multi-tier client/server and Web applications. Wise Solutions, headquartered in Canton, MI, is a global leader in the development of installation software for Windows applications.

The contract enables TopSpeed to offer Wise for Clarion, a customized Wise installation tool based on the award-winning Wise Installation SystemÒ , as an integrated component of its flagship Clarion 5 Enterprise and Web application development solutions. In addition to licensing the Wise for Clarion product, TopSpeed will remarket Wise's new products including InstallMaker™, InstallBuilder™, and InstallMaster™, worldwide. The three powerful installation suites include Version 7.0 of Wise Installation System.

The agreement also provides a framework for joint marketing and promotion, and formalizes the selection of Wise to exclusively supply software installation and distribution products to TopSpeed's worldwide customer base, including special upgrade options for current TopSpeed Deployment Kit (TDK) customers. Further, the agreement calls for Wise to assist TopSpeed in promoting its software to Wise customers.

Delivering the Best Development Tools

TopSpeed and Wise see the agreement as a means of formalizing a relationship focused on providing developers with easy-to-use, powerful software tools. "Developers typically achieve dramatic productivity increases when building applications with Clarion tools," says Bruce Barrington, Chief Executive Officer at TopSpeed. "The integration of Clarion and Wise Installation System delivers the same high level of automation and productivity to the Windows application installation process.

"We've used Clarion's application generation technology to automate creation of Wise installation scripts," Barrington notes. "As a result, Clarion applications can be installed faster than ever before. It's a winning combination for both companies and for the developers we serve."

"Wise's alliance with TopSpeed is a great step forward in creating and distributing high performance, commercial quality, client server software that brings significant benefit to our mutual customers," comments Bill Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of Wise Solutions.

"Informal feedback from our users is that they're tremendously excited about this new relationship," Barrington continues. "With our installed base of developers worldwide, Wise has a well-earned reputation for providing top-of-the-line solutions for installing Windows applications. Wise installation tools complement the Clarion product family and help both firms achieve the mutual goal of delivering easy-to-use, extremely powerful tools to the application development community."

TOPSPEED, USER TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATES FORM STRATEGIC ALLIANCE BASED ON CLARION SOFTWARE

Fast-Growth IT Firm Selects Clarion for Developer Productivity

Pompano Beach, Florida, October 26, 1998 - TopSpeedÒ Corporation and User Technology Associates, Inc. (UTA) today unveiled a strategic relationship between the two fast-growing information technology companies.

TopSpeed develops and markets Clarion software, the breakthrough solution for rapid development and deployment of multi-tier client/server and Web applications. UTA, based in Arlington, VA, is an award-winning information technology organization that delivers services and product solutions to customers in the government and commercial arenas.

Through the alliance, UTA plans to bring the power and productivity of the Clarion application development toolset to their entire programming staff. In addition to providing Clarion training for UTA developers, the systems and services company will offer Clarion training courses to programmers in its nationwide client base through the UTA Institute of Technology (U.I.T.).

"Certainly, there is a demand for more Clarion programmers industry-wide," says UTA Chief Executive Officer Yong K. Kim. "But that's only one of the driving forces behind this agreement. Even more critical, the shortage of professional application developers is rapidly becoming the major challenge of every CIO in the country."

"We share that challenge with each of our clients." Kim continues. "The only real solution is to increase the productivity of every developer in order to meet client needs cheaper, better, faster. We've learned that Clarion enables programmers to be significantly more productive than many competitive tools. That's why our staff is emphasizing Clarion." It's also why UTA estimates that as many as 1,000 non-UTA developers will begin using Clarion after training and certification at U.I.T.

"The agreement also strengthens UTA and TopSpeed in terms of future market positioning," says TopSpeed's Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Barrington. UTA sees the move to Clarion as a way to continue revenue growth that has led to recognition on Inc.Magazine's Fast 500 list of fastest-growing private companies for three years and Washington Technology's Fast 50 list for four years, according to Kim. And, from TopSpeed's perspective, joining forces with UTA on federal government, as well as commercial consulting engagements, opens up a myriad of opportunities in the traditionally conservative Federal/IT consulting business.

Common Goals Mean Win/Win

"This is a pact between two companies with consistent and complementary organizational goals," says Barrington. "TopSpeed is committed to automating the art of programming so that organizations can keep up with their information needs. UTA's mission is to close the gap between the user and technology by providing users with the results they need to succeed. The productivity surge Clarion makes possible means UTA programmers can achieve that objective faster than ever before."

Both firms see Clarion as the solution of choice in addressing three major challenges for UTA clients:

  • Worldwide shortage of information workers-Clarion's proven ability to slash development time is critical.
  • Worldwide need to resolve Year 2000 problems-Delivery of Year 2K-compliant applications is a UTA core competency.
  • Pan-European software rewrite-Clarion-based productivity is essential to enabling developers throughout Europe to successfully manage the massive application rewrites made necessary to accommodate the European Union (EU).

"It's a definite win for both companies," concludes Mr. Barrington.
